Druslan
September 20, 2017 ·
Hi. We are Druslan. Sometimes people ask us questions, hope this helps:
Scott and I started the band in 2003 with our friend Tim. For a college film project, we decided to create a "fake band" called DYSLEXIC FUDGICLE and make a mockumentary about them. We created our own soundtrack, and the process was fun enough that the project became real. We continued to perform "in character," making weird music for our own entertainment.
Between 2003-2007, we collaborated as an on again/off again recording project, working on underground material of various styles. In 2008, we made a concerted effort to refine our sound and start writing better songs. Between 2009-2013, we began performing our live stage show, which is where the infamous "burger throwing" became a staple of our live show.
In 2013, I moved to California, thus relegating the band back to a "recording-only" status. We continued to record singles, which were released on Torn Flesh Records. I performed in a band called Space Vacation during this time, touring the West Coast. In my downtime, I began writing what would later become our "Cancelled Funeral" album.
In 2014, I moved to Austin, TX, where I completed writing and recording "Cancelled Funeral," our most ambitious album. Scott sent all his vocal tracks via email from Rhode Island. We partnered with Evan Sammons (Last Chance to Reason), and he was able to bring his drumming and engineering skills to help us complete our record.
In 2015, I moved back to the East Coast, and the band started again with a new arsenal of songs. The lineup changed around a bit, but Scott and I remained, and we were joined by the immensely talented Kaleb Duff on drums. We started writing new music together, and decided it was time to shed the "fake band" persona of Dyslexic Fudgicle, and move on as DRUSLAN. It suits our musical direction and style much better than a handicapped dessert.
Within the last year, we have released two EP's with our new lineup: "Undisputed Fattitude" a punk rock cover EP and "Impossible Doors" a split EP we did with Gefilte Fist from Florida. We recorded the studio tracks with Samuel Willgoose at Murder Box Studios in Boston MA.
As it stands now, we are writing what will probably be our first full length as "DRUSLAN" (our 9th full length record as a band). We are working with artist Maegan LeMay (she's done art for EXMORTUS, WITCHTRAP etc), for an artistic rebranding, and our friend Don Hinge is designing the album art for our first single, "MOON NOOSE," which should be released by years' end.
One question I get asked sometimes is if we are a "different band." Same band, new name, and we still perform many of the songs from Dyslexic Fudgicle. So basically, we are writing a lot of new stuff, but we will continue to play at least a few DF songs at shows. And hopefully you will like our new songs as well. - Mark S.
TL;DR: We used to be Dyslexic Fudgicle, but changed our name. We still play some of the same songs, and are writing better ones. Kaleb is a good drummer, and we throw burgers.
